It has no code name, like all the previous releases of my site did. What can I say, I don’t have time for that shit anymore, and Ubuntu has taken the codename concept and run with it so far, that I can’t even hope to compete.

At the time of this writing, the site is almost eight years old. I put it up in 2002, partially as an answer to all those people who didn’t like that I bought an entire domain name and hosting simply to get my email to end in “@worlord.com” (YA RLY); partially because I had this whole other side of my life that was I needed to express and work out in the worst way; and partially because I missed writing a lot and thought that I might be able to say something occasionally entertaining.

I eventually ended up doing all of these things, and a lot of other things as well.

What once served no real purpose on the ‘net (other than what I stated above, and if I’m lucky, entertaining a few folks) turned into a class five shitstorm of a website. I started to let other people set up blogs here using subdomains; and people started to use and request more subdomains than I currently had with my provider. It was a hopping, jammin’ site, where people I knew could have their own little expressive corner on the web to say what they needed to say.

Two things happened to this, almost simultaneously:

A) Some mega-badness happened to one of the posters. That person basically said some shit that shouldn’t be made semi-permanent on the Internet, and it caused untold worlds of grief on that person… grief that threatened to spill over onto myself and maybe everyone else using the site.

B) LiveJournal, MySpace, and Facebook (at different points) really took off, allowing users to have their own customizable blogs without requiring the knowledge or use of PHP.

Long story short, I stopped posting (largely due to A), and everyone else stopped too (largely due to B). I thought about regretting either or both; maybe starting up again with the posting… but, really, I don’t want to. I’m surprisingly all-or-nothing with this: I find that if I can’t say what’s on my mind – 100% – then I’d rather not say anything of consequence at all. And if I’ve learned anything at all about the Internet, it is certainly that you don’t want to say 100% of what’s on your mind on here, ever. It’s unrewarding, and in some cases, extremely dangerous to your life and/or liberty.

The site is still up, but completely repurposed. Mostly, it collects all the other parts of me – tweets, Last.fm playlists, my pictures, etc. etc. – all in one spot, and I occationally log in and post a silly picture. Or a short work of fiction. Or a rant about how utterly fucking stupid the people on this earth really tend to be most of the time.

If there was anything else there before, it’s been removed since.

In the past, I had a “Technical” section in the about page… but I’m not going to have one now. This is mostly because I found out that I don’t really care about standards, language validation, browser wars, or other such nonsense… but also because I just don’t have a whole lot of fancy javascripts or boundary-pushing CSS-calls. All I care about is people being able to see what they came to see without using excessive amounts of bandwidth… and this site should reliably meet that goal no matter what OS and browser you’re using (though I no longer test in IE or even in Windows, for that matter). The only problem you’ll have is if you’re using a resolution less than 1024×768, so sorry to all the dudes out there still using a 4mb video card and 13-inch monochrome monitor, but it’s 2009 and I officially don’t care about you.

Everything on here, except subdomain content ([something].worlord.com) is copyright 2002-Now, property of Me.
